Terms of service
Last updated 21 September 2026.
These terms govern your use of Stars Games, a hosted platform that lets you run a free-to-play prediction game for your own audience. They are an agreement between you (the operator) and Stars Games (we, us).
If you are here to play a game rather than run one, these are not the terms that apply to you. The operator running that game sets its own, and our responsibility to you is described in our privacy policy.
1. What the service is
We host prediction games. You choose a template, brand it, and publish it at a hostname you control. Your players make predictions on real-world sporting events, those predictions are scored against results, and players are ranked.
The platform is free-to-play by design. There is no stake, no wager, no cash prize and no cash-out. Points and in-game currency have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be transferred between accounts. We built it this way deliberately, and you may not use it in a way that changes it.
2. What you may not do with it
- Take a stake, a wager or an entry fee for taking part in a game, whether through the platform or alongside it.
- Offer a cash prize, or anything a reasonable person would treat as a cash equivalent, in a way that would make your game gambling under the law that applies to your players.
- Present in-game currency as having monetary value, or run any scheme that converts it into money or money's worth.
- Use the service unlawfully, or to harass, defraud or deceive anybody.
- Attempt to reach another operator's data, probe the platform's security, or interfere with its operation.
- Resell or sub-licence the platform as your own product without a written agreement with us.
Whether a promotion built around your game is lawful is your decision and your risk. You know your market and your regulator; we do not. If you intend to attach a prize of any value to a game, take your own advice first.
3. Your players, and your responsibilities to them
The people who play your game are your audience. You decide what your game is called, how it is promoted and what you tell them. In data protection terms you are the controller of their personal data and we are your processor — see the privacy policy.
You are responsible for:
- Publishing your own terms and privacy notice to your players.
- Deciding whether your market requires age-gating or self-exclusion, and switching those on. They are per-game settings, off by default, because a free-to-play game carries no licensing obligation in most markets and we will not make a club demand a date of birth it does not need.
- Answering your players' questions about your game.
- Any prize you choose to award, and every tax and legal consequence of it.
4. Plans, billing and cancellation
Every game starts on the free plan. You are asked for a card only when you want something a paid plan unlocks. Paid plans are billed monthly in advance in pounds sterling through Stripe, our payment processor. We never see or store your card details.
Prices are shown on the pricing page and exclude VAT where VAT applies. We will give you at least 30 days' notice before changing the price of a plan you are on.
If a payment fails
We do not take your audience offline over a card that expired. A failed payment starts a 14-day grace period during which your game keeps running exactly as it was. If it is still unpaid at the end of that, the game is suspended: players see a billing notice instead of the game, and nothing is deleted. Thirty days after that the game is archived — still not deleted, and your data export still works.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time from your console. Your game runs to the end of the period you have paid for. We do not refund part-months, and we do not make you email anybody to leave.
You can take your data with you. Cancelling hands you an export link: your players, your rounds and your full transaction ledger, as machine-readable NDJSON. We would rather keep you by being worth paying for than by holding your audience hostage.
5. Who owns what
You own your brand, your content and your player data. We own the platform, its software and its designs. Neither of us gets the other's by using it.
You grant us only the licence we need to run your game for you — to store, process and display your content for that purpose, and to keep the backups described in our privacy policy.
6. Availability
We work hard to keep the platform up and we do not promise it always will be. There is no uptime guarantee on the free, Starter or Pro plans. An Enterprise agreement can include one, in writing.
We may change or withdraw features. Where a change would materially reduce what your plan does, we will tell you before we make it.
7. Sports data
Fixtures, results and any odds shown come from third-party providers. We pass on what they publish and we do not warrant that it is accurate, complete or timely.
A result can arrive late, wrong, or not at all. Free data plans in particular serve only a short window of history, so a round that goes unsettled for several days may become impossible to settle automatically. Every game has a manual results screen for exactly this, and the operator console tells you when a round is waiting.
8. Suspension
We may suspend or close a game that breaks section 2, that puts the platform or other operators at risk, or that is unpaid past its grace period. Except where the law or an immediate risk requires otherwise, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right, and your export will still work.
9. Liability
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Subject to that, neither of us is liable to the other for loss of profit, revenue, goodwill or data, or for indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability in any 12-month period is limited to the fees you paid us in that period.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you we will email the address on your account at least 30 days beforehand. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept it.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
